To Rx...or not (Helen)

So today we’re doing Helen.

3 rounds:

400m run

21 KB swings (53/35#)

12 pull-ups (chin over horizontal plane of bar)

The last time I did this WOD was in November of last year. I used a 35# kettlebell and a red band for the pullups. My time was 13:50.

I know that I can do this WOD without a band now, so that’s progress.

Because I am an idiot, I am tempted to try and Rx this…but I have never used a 53# kettlebell in a timed WOD before. That weight could definitely break me.

I think that the wise-man’s choice here is the 44# kettlebell. That jump between 35# and 55# is huge. 44# seems reasonable.

Scaling is tricky biznass but figuring this stuff out is a part of the workout. I can remember working out at my old gym and just doing 10 reps of “something”, moving on to the next exercise and doing another “10 reps”. There was never any question about doing 10 reps...it's what I always did. Over and over. There were no strategies or mental negotiations. The mental strategies that Crossfit requires is often just as intense as the actual WOD for me.

We’ll see what happens. I really want to try and finished this in <10 minutes this time.

Wise-beyond-his-years Cory had us do a "practice" round before the first official round of Helen last night. Based on that, I quickly remembered how much I hate to run. I decided to go with the 35# kettlebells (same as my previous date with Helen). I ended up finishing in 11:07 (although I did not go as heavy with the kettlebell swings as my ego wanted to, I think it was a wise choice...I was totally winded after each run but I was able to finish every round without resting too much, and was still able to beat my previous time by 2 minutes WITHOUT a band this time for the pullups).

Howz ACO training, Carrie????
