So, after last week’s crash, I’ve reassembled and got myself back on the path. Tuesday and Wednesday were good nights at Crossfit.
Last night was a “hero” workout: Nate. The workout was dedicated to a Navy Seal who had fallen while serving in the Middle East. There are a lot of Xfit members who are in active duty or have served in the past – this is not a world that I am familiar with, nor do I tend to wear my patriotism “on my sleeve”. But before we got started last night, Koy personalized the WOD with some information about the Navy Seal that last night’s WOD was named after. It definitely put the 20-minutes of discomfort that the WOD would certainly bring into perspective.
The WOD was a combination of hand-stand-push-ups, kettlebell swings and – wait for it: muscle ups. Even though the WOD specified sets of just TWO muscle ups, if you couldn’t do a muscle up the substitute was 4 pullups and dips…for EACH muscle up. While two muscle ups are no joke, EIGHT pullups seemed to be over-the-top. Nate.
I ended up completing 7 rounds, each round consisted of 8 dips (parallettes), 8 pull ups, 4 handstand-push-ups and 8 kettlebell swings (I used the 35lbs kettelbell) in 20 minutes.
This WOD was fun, though it would have felt even better if I could have done the two muscle ups. Going to start dedicating some time every day to getting this.

Yay!! You're back on the wagon! :) It can be a really bumpy ride sometimes, but we gotta pick ourselves off, brush the dust off, and hop back on!
Awesome job on the WOD last night, and I just know that the next WOD that requires MUs will see you doing them as rx'd. Right?!!! :) At least you can do all the pullups without assistance. :/ I was pretty proud of myself for sticking it out for four rounds of 8 kipping pullups with no band, though. Next time, I won't let myself use the band AT ALL. I was just concerned about my hands, which are never going to be completely healed. The sooner I realize this fact, the more effective I will be at doing WODs rx'd. Haha! Great work!!
THE HANDS. Little rips in the flesh of my hand totally destroy my concentration inthe middle of a WOD. In my head I start to think "this is only going to get worse" and I start burning up all kinds of time just staring at my hands. The other day I was watching Sam do some kind of crazy WOD -- lots of pullups and pushups. The kid was bleeding all over the place. It didn't even seem like he'd noticed, he'd just crank out more pullups and slap his hands on the ground for another set of pushups. I'm not sure how that works.
Haha, I'm with you about wasting WOD time looking sadly at my hands instead of just ignoring them and keeping myself moving. Anna is the same way as Sam--both her hands were bleeding pretty badly yesterday, but she kept going on those pullups. Sick!!! I need to learn how to do that. :) Actually, I did a Fran-esque WOD that used wall ball shots instead of thrusters, and my hand ripped on the final set of pullups. I was about 4 or so away from being done, and I was ready to quit because my hand stuuuuuuung, but I gingerly positioned it so the pain would be minimized and afterward I pitied myself fully.
